Volcan Energon 300 compact LFP
Volcan is a start-up that wants to provide an alternative in the back-up power space that "adds a touch of sci-fi to your everyday life" (and that goes very well with your Asus ROG Flow Z13 Acronym, moreover). The E300 Energon 300 and its distinctive design is now live on Kickstarter.
Its OEM asserts that it can go anywhere with the user (thanks to its convenient top-mounted handle) to keep up to 7 of their devices powered up at the same time if necessary. They may include consoles, smartphones, cameras, drones and even a 60W ventilator, which could run off the Energon 300 for up to 5 hours.
That gives the power station an estimated capacity of 300W at up to 12.6V - although Energon does disclose that this adds up to 20,000mAh, like some even more compact power banks out there. Then again, it is also touted as powered by "automotive-grade" LiFePO4 (or LFP) batteries, with all the "3000+ cycle" endurance, stability and safety advantages with which that tech is associated.
The 300 counts USB type-C and A-ports among its complement of power I/O - which are, however, less than spectacular compared to those of others. Their maximum output is 60W, and most are rated for just 18W. Therefore, those looking for that 120W spec would need to look to the product's dual DC ports.
Then again, the Energon 300 does boast a single full-sized (US) outlet for a "300W Pure Sine Wave" output, with a peak at 600W. The generator also features a (non-OLED) status display and almost Nothing-esque white LED lighting.
Those who would like to take a chance on this departure from the increasingly familiar mini power station esthetic can do so from now, starting at an early-bird price of US$199 on Kickstarter.
